Loose Water Tank Cover

If you’ve ever heard of a water tank falling out of an RV, you don’t wanna miss the loose RV tank straps we found on the new RV.

Hello everyone! It’s Jason again with MyRVResource.com – It’s Like the Yellow Pages for RV Services!

Today I’m coming at you once again with another Weekly One Reason to Get an RV Inspection. I’m inspecting a brand new fifth wheel and we’re going to go check that manufacture date real quick. Right there between my fingers, we can see March 2022 was the date.

I’m going to show you what I found on this RV today so far. One of the things is at least minor. Looking up from underneath of the RV, I noticed there was some tape hanging down.

Where that tape is hanging down, there’s actually a cut in the underbelly. When we need to make repairs under an RV, you’re supposed to pull the underbelly make the repair and put the underbelly back. In this case, they put a nice big long slice in it and put a piece of tape on there. We’ve got a cut on the RV underbelly and the other problem is much more serious.

Have you ever heard stories of people’s black, gray, or freshwater tanks falling out of their RV?

These tanks are mounted underneath and they typically have a strap preventing them from falling. The strap is not tight because the tanks going to expand, but they’re tight enough to hold them in place. When I opened up this little underneath the here I saw that the strap is super loose. This is a brand new RV and obviously you don’t want the RV tank falling out while you’re driving down the road.

When we open the sliced underbelly open we also noticed water pouring out of the underbelly.  That tells us that there is a water leak up inside there somewhere.

This RV has been through a dealership PDI.  Does that mean the dealership knew there was a cut in the underbelly? Did the dealership tape it up so they didn’t have to fix it? An independent certified RV inspector isn’t going to hide something like this. They are going to tell you what’s wrong.

So my Weekly One Reason to Get an RV Inspection is the underbelly of the RV has been cut, we have water coming out of the underbelly, and a strap that’s loose that holds that tank in place. Have a nice day!
