Let’s talk about misaligned RV slideouts on today’s Weekly One Reason to Get an RV Inspection.

Hello everyone! It’s Jason again with  MyRVResource.com.

I’m inspecting a brand-new fifth wheel today. Let’s go check the manufacture date just to show it’s brand new. Right there, we see it’s March of 2022 and I want to show you a little bit about slide-outs and their alignment.

There’s an easy way to tell that slide-outs are out of alignment.

I’m going to show you one of those ways to find out. On one of the sides of the RV slideout, there’s what we call a sweep seal or a wiper seal. This flips in or out depending on if the slideout is retracted or extended. If we look at this RV slide-out see we can see it’s touching the sidewall, but all of a sudden, the closer you get to the top the tighter that wall is to that sweep seal. Now if we go to the other side of the slide-out, we can see the RV sidewall, but the sweep seal is barely touching the sidewall. As you get to the top, there’s a pretty big gap between the sweep seal and the sidewall. That tells me we have misaligned RV slideouts. You could get water in there and that’s going to cause you a lot of problems.

This is a brand-new RV folks. Once again, it’s ready for the customer to take delivery. As a matter of fact, we had to postpone this inspection because of Hurricane Ian. They had even more time with the RV. We are now one week since the hurricane hit and the dealership’s been open at least four or more days since then. They had the PDI completed before I was supposed to be out here the first time.

They should have known that this was a problem and they should have fixed it before I got here. They didn’t, so once again, with your Weekly One Reason to Get an RV Inspection, this is Jason and you have a nice day.

But wait there’s more!

So what we had just looked at was the street-side center slide-out. Now we’re looking at the streetside rear slideout. Let’s go have the look once again at the sweep seal. You can tell it’s not even touching the sidewall. When we go to the rear of the slide-out we can see how tight that sweep seal is on the sidewall. So once again we have possible water intrusion and we also have misaligned RV slideouts.

Once again, with your Weekly One Reason to Get an RV Inspection, we have two slide-outs, not one slide-out, misaligned. This is after the dealership’s PDI!

They were going to sell this RV to somebody without fixing it. That’s what independent RV inspectors are here for. Have a nice day!
