An RV Propane Leak can be very dangerous for your family. Don’t buy an RV without knowing your family is as safe as possible. On this Weekly One Reason to Get an RV Inspection, I’ll show you a new RV with a Propane Leak.

When the dealership tells you they do an RV inspection prior to your purchase, do they explain what they inspect? What a dealership does and what a certified RV Inspector does are two completely different things.

I’m sure your family is the most important thing in your life. As Master Certified RV Inspectors Lisa and I want your family to be safe. I couldn’t say it enough in this video.

Part of making sure you are safe is completing an RV Propane Leak Test. We do things a little differently than the dealership. The RVIA requires your propane system to hold 8” of water column for 3 minutes. We check the system the same way except we wait 5 minutes. Why do we wait longer? When running the test we add a before and after picture of the test. If the time on our picture is 5 minutes apart, you know we waited at least a full 3 minutes.

If our test fails we complete the test multiple times with multiple manometers. This is so we can prove that it is not our equipment failing the test. In this video, I performed the test 5 times with 2 different manometers and the RV showed a leak every time.

Propane is a dangerous fuel that is under pressure. A small spark near a propane leak could be catastrophic. Make sure you get an independent RV inspection from a certified RV inspector for peace of mind.
