MyRVResource.com likes to do things a little differently. We love sharing details about our Featured VIP members and this week, we’re proud to spotlight Scott and Danielle with Wheel Estate RV: Mobile RV Service and Inspections.

Tell us a little about your situation while running your RV business.

We formed our business in 2020. We have full-timed in our 2019 Keystone Sprinter since 2019 with our kiddos and dogs.

From 2020 to 2022 we traveled from Northern Arizona to Athens, Texas a few times. First for earning Certified RV Inspectors and Registered RV Technicians in 2020. Then we went from Athens to AZ only to get called to Medford, Oregon for a contract. We left Medford deciding that we needed to invest in becoming more than Registered RV Techs, we needed to up our game to Certified RV Technician. So, we headed back to Athens in 2021 where Scott earned Certified RV Technician. From there we meandered out west until deciding to settle in Southern California in a booming little town called Menifee.

Do you live in an RV full-time?

We live in our RV currently as we transition from full-timers to stationary. We have never owned a RV before this one. Our RV is a 2019 Keystone Sprinter 2 bedroom 1.5 bath with an outdoor kitchen.

What inspired you to start your own RV business?

We wanted to build a business that was in a rapidly growing industry but also allowed for us to travel AND I felt it was important to know how to buy an RV (inspecting leads to informed purchases), and to know how to fix our own RV so that we could avoid costly RV shops.

What RV services or RV products do you offer?

We offer RV inspections for pre-purchase, just after purchase, camping season ready (basic life safety), warranty, insurance claims, and rentals (Outdoorsy, RVShare, etc).

We also offer repairs and servicing of most RV components, except solar, generators, and residential RV refrigerators.

What is your background and how did you develop the skills to start your business?

Scott had worked for FedEx for several years and Danielle worked at Home Depot in sales and design.

We both designed and executed several projects for our former homestead in Flagstaff, AZ and have been running an online retail store.

One day we decided we wanted to travel and see the country with our girls before we got too old or they got too old.

Danielle started with the at home training that the NRVTA offered. She found that it was quality information and that they both decided to head to Athens, Texas to take the in person training and testing to become Certified RV Inspectors and Registered RV Technicians.

Shortly after that, we were recruited by FEMA to assist the 2020 fire victims in Oregon. After that contract ended, we quickly realized the value that a Certified RV Tech had over a Registered RV Tech and decided to head back to Athens to have Scott earn qualifications as a Certified RV Technician.

What has been your business’s proudest moment?

Our business was hand picked by FEMA representatives to assist fire victims in Medford, Oregon November 2020. We were responsible for making sure that new RVs were in shape and if there were issues they were fixed on the spot.

The crew completed over 120 inspections in a matter of two weeks. To know that these people, who lost everything, had at least a safe place to rest and recoup meant a lot to us. We felt fortunate to help.

What has been your biggest challenge?

While we were traveling it was difficult for us to find business. Now that we’ve gone stationary for longer that challenge has eased significantly.

Describe your typical work day.

We both go over emails through various sites first thing in the morning. Scott typically handles the Gmail while Danielle handles the social media.

Then Scott makes a few calls for the day and heads out to do whatever job he’s doing that day, either tech work or inspections.

Danielle works on media, planning the week’s pipeline, following up with clients, etc. When business is really busy then Danielle heads out to do inspection work as well.

Tell us something interesting/fun about your business.

We have two daughters who have each shown interest in our business.

We are truly a family owned and operated business. We hope that soon we will take them on inspections to work as apprentices.

When repairs or maintenance comes up on our own RV, Scott will see if anyone is interested in learning how to fix it.

If you could go back to the beginning knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?

We would have gone stationary sooner. For us, we struggled from the road. I know that’s an individual experience and many don’t struggle, but for us it was.

We’ve really been able to build a personal advertising approach that traveling didn’t give us.

What’s your best advice for someone who wants to start his/her own RV business?

Do it! It’s a service that needs qualified people.

That means, be up to date and as knowledgeable as possible in whatever services you choose to provide, but that also means to have compassion for people and situations and to provide excellent customer service.

Any other comments or advice you'd like to share?

Build your business, do your best, crush your goals, but also be helpful and kind.

Be helpful to your competition. There’s enough business out there for everyone and the world is hard enough.

Glad to chat with you, FRIEND!
